The History Of Ceramics

- Jan 11, 2018-

The history of the development of ceramics is an important part of the history of Chinese civilization. As one of the four ancient civilizations, China made outstanding contributions to the progress and development of human society. The invention and development of ceramics have a unique significance. Each generation in China's history has different artistic styles and different technical characteristics. The "china" in English has both the meaning of China and the meaning of ceramics, which clearly shows that China is the "hometown of ceramics." As early as the European mastery of porcelain manufacturing technology more than a thousand years ago, the Han people have created a very beautiful ceramic. China is one of the earliest countries to apply pottery in the world, while Chinese porcelain is highly regarded by the world because of its high practicability and artistry.

With the development of modern science and technology, many new ceramic varieties have emerged in the last hundred years. They no longer use or seldom use traditional ceramic materials such as clay, feldspar and quartz. Instead, they use other special materials and even extend to non-silicate and non-oxide areas, and many new processes have emerged. The literature in the United States and in some European countries has defined the term "Ceramic" as the generic term for a variety of inorganic, non-metallic solid materials. Therefore, the meaning of ceramics has actually far surpassed the traditional concepts of the past.
